THE DESIGN BRIEF
Designed for a young entrepreneur based out of Dubai as a second home in India. He wanted a luxurious home to host gatherings for his friends and relatives in Mumbai. This was an opportunity to conceptualize an avant-garde home in Mumbai’s most upscale residential area that would impress upon its visitors and yet simultaneously be cozy and inviting. The vision for the home was to design a space where guests could be transported to a realm of mystery, poetry, and emotions, similarly witnessed at an art gallery. Where the art would be the bespoke objects in the home ranging from furniture pieces, artifacts, and materials sourced from various parts of the world, eclectic lights, and furnishings, to even functional elements such as doors. In order to house these objects, the space designed was very minimal and raw while having a well-thought-out color and material palette with sophisticated metal details that complement these bespoke objects while elevating the space.

NOTE - EACH OBJECT / FURNITURE IN THIS HOUSE IS CUSTOM MADE.

THE DESIGN BRIEF
Designed for a young Dubai-based entrepreneur seeking a luxurious second home in Mumbai, this residence serves as a sophisticated venue for hosting friends and family. The vision was to create an avant-garde space that impresses visitors while remaining cozy and inviting. The home was conceptualized as a gallery-like environment where bespoke furniture, eclectic lights, artifacts sourced from around the world, and even functional elements like doors, serve as art pieces. To highlight these curated objects, the space features a minimal, raw design with a refined color and material palette accented by sophisticated metal details.
The idea was to conceive a timeless space that houses the various objects/sculptures in a way that does not compete with them but rather draws attention to them. To make it timeless, we proposed a strategy that involved decluttering and having a very minimal, bare, monolithic shell that blends various monotoned textures and materials seamlessly with sophisticated metal details to accentuate the space while complimenting the objects. We also wanted this home to have many contradictions; Black and White, Smooth and Rough, Opaque and Transparent, raw and finished.
THEME

The Post-Colonial theme is expressed through structured paneling, clean lines, and a rich mix of materials. The office is tied together by a strong geometric rhythm—grids, squares, and moldings—while wooden flooring throughout adds warmth. A neutral, earthy palette forms the base, with soft-toned furnishings for contrast. The waiting lounge brings in a pop of color, creating a striking first impression. Brass light fixtures highlight the vintage colonial feel, while black hardware adds a bold contrast. In the director’s cabin, concealed ambient lighting enhances depth, emphasizing the architectural details. The use of custom wooden blinds in every room ensures a seamless visual flow, filtering natural light to soften the atmosphere. From the carefully crafted paneling details to the interplay of materials and textures, every element works together to create a luxurious yet personal workspace—one that reflects both the brand’s identity and the deeply personal journey behind its creation.

As you enter, the waiting lounge sets the tone with warm paneling that doubles as a design feature and hidden storage. A concealed door on the right leads to the pantry and powder room, maintaining a seamless look. The central passageway acts as the spine of the office, leading to three cabins—two smaller workspaces on either side and the director’s cabin at the end.

The waiting area, passage, and smaller cabins share a consistent design language, with veneer-paneled walls integrating concealed storage, electrical cabinets, and glass openings that offer glimpses into the cabins. The director’s cabin, however, takes on a more refined look. The panelled ceiling, designed in a 3x4 grid with recessed lighting, becomes the centerpiece, adding depth and character. Unlike the other spaces, the walls here are PU-painted instead of veneered, introducing contrast while maintaining the same detailing. The executive desk sits to the right, while a lounge area on the left adds a sense of balance. Behind the desk, a built-in unit cleverly hides storage, a console table, and a concealed door leading to the private anteroom lounge with an ensuite bathroom. The design shifts here, breaking away from full-height paneling in favor of a half-paneled look with vintage 1950s-style wallpaper, adding warmth and nostalgia.
