THE HOMEMADE CAFE
TYPE : COMMERCIAL | YEAR : 2016
LOCATION : ANDHERI, MUMBAI

THE DESIGN BRIEF
A cafe tucked away in one of Mumbai’s upcoming localities, The Homemade Cafe was inspired by quaint Italian countryside cafes. The bright blue facade decked with bougainvilleas blooming over it makes this cafe stand out from the others that are there in the same row. The cosy and snug interiors is created keeping the client brief in mind, i.e. young owners of this cafe wanted the visitors to feel like the were entering a countryside Italian home. The cafe has a casual homely environments where one can sit for a long time, enjoy their coffee, meal or read a book from the shelves.

THE PLAN
The home is designed to host gatherings and divided into 2 zones. Public and private areas and served and service areas. Facing the sea on the RHS are the public spaces, (the entry foyer, formal and informal seating, dining, den, and the bar area) which are conceived in an open plan to allow free movement and gathering of people. On the other side, the private and the service areas (Master bedroom, kitchen, servant area, utility area) are efficiently organized out of sight for the visitor.

THEME

The 3D objects and elements were then curated and placed on the wall to provide depth and interactive play for the visitors Textured painted walls are adorned with decor sourced from local furniture flea markets and curated on site. An open cabinet of wood with wainscotted panels on the shutter give an extremely homely vibe to the visitors. Acacia wood for table tops, cabinet and shelves ,metal framed legs, metal chairs, brass accents, beige cotton fabric for blinds, varnish used as texture paint on the walls.
